Harbor Jam concert series announced at Rivers Casino

Mohawk Harbor will be a little busier this summer with Harbor Jam.

Rivers Casino & Resort announced the lineup for its summer concert series on Thursday in Rivers’ amphitheater. The weekly concert series will feature tribute bands like Yellow Brick Road and Journeyman, along with Pure Prairie League, California Transit Authority, Orleans and Lords of 52nd street.

“People from all across the region can come out and enjoy a summer evening of great entertainment at a world-class amphitheater,” said Justin Moore, Rivers’ assistant general manager.

The concerts are free and start at 6 p.m. every Saturday from June 23 to Aug. 11, rain or shine. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs for seating.

It was also announced that Druthers, one of the sponsors of the series, plans to open its highly anticipated Schenectady location in time for the first concert. Food and beverages from Druthers, Rivers Casino and Schenectady County Community College’s culinary arts program will be available for purchase during the concerts. Students from the culinary program will be running a concession stand and all the proceeds from sales will go right back into the college’s culinary program.

Dave Brough, director of the culinary arts program, said that the gesture was overwhelming and that it’ll be a new opportunity for the students.

“Schenectady is clearly the place to be now,” said state Assemblyman Phil Steck, who attended the announcement.

“I’ve been put in a unique position, being the assemblyman that represents this area, of defending Rivers Casino from attacks from various places,” Steck said.

According to Steck, although the casino has not reached the initially targeted revenue, it has generated around $100 million dollars in revenue for the state and $2.1 million for the city of Schenectady.

With the Harbor Jam concert series, Rivers hopes to draw in people from across the Capital Region.

Proctors, which partnered with Rivers to book the acts, was instrumental in getting the variety of bands to the series. Perhaps the most locally loved, the Lords of 52nd Street offer up the best of Billy Joel’s music, while Pure Prairie League brings a country-rock sound to the series. Yellow Brick Road, the first to play, is a popular Elton John tribute band. Orleans, a ’70s pop rock band, will finish off the season.

Here’s the full schedule:

  • June 23: Yellow Brick Road (Elton John tribute)
  • June 30: Journeyman (Eric Clapton tribute)
  • July 7: Pure Prairie League (Country rock)
  • July 14: Unforgettable Fire (U2 tribute)
