A grocer could be coming to the Mohawk Harbor site to complement the apartments and offices opening this summer, Galesi Group CEO David Buicko said Thursday.
Buicko gave a presentation about the Mohawk Harbor development to area business and municipal leaders Thursday morning in the Electric City Innovation Center, a collaborative work space located on State Street. Following his remarks, he detailed what’s still to come on the 60-acre site.
The Galesi Group is the developer responsible for the $480 million project, which spans the stretch of land between Erie Boulevard and the Mohawk River. It includes luxury apartments, office and retail space, hotels and Rivers Casino & Resort.
The Riverhouse Apartments will offer 206 units when completed this summer. With that influx of residents, and the lack of a true grocery store in or near the Stockade, Buicko said he thinks some kind of grocer is needed.
“Unfortunately, for major grocers it’s too small of a market right now, but we’re looking at talking to a couple of boutique operations,” he said. “Hopefully we can attract something.”
There’s a Wal-Mart in Glenville a little less than two miles from the harbor site, and a Hannaford and Price Chopper situated about four miles down the road.
