Druthers to open Schenectady location on Mohawk Harbor

SCHENECTADY — Druthers Brewing will open a new location this summer on the waterfront of the Mohawk Harbor in Schenectady.

The new location for the Capital Region brewery, which has brewpubs in Saratoga and Albany, is expected to open in July and will operate out of the main floor of the Riverhouse apartment complex off of Erie Boulevard. The business is the first tenant announced for the Mohawk Harbor site, outside of restaurants at Rivers Casino and Resort.

“It just seemed like a really good fit,” Druthers CEO Chris Martell said. “Once we saw the waterfront location, we just imagined having a nice beer garden out on the waterfront.”

The business will take up 8,000-square-feet of space and employ roughly 70 people, Martell said. The waterfront space will be similar to the Druthers’ Saratoga Springs outdoor area, he said, but it will be situated along the harbor.

Local leaders were on hand for the announcement, and they described Druthers as a perfect fit for the location. Galesi Group CEO David Buicko said the company actually turned down other tenants that wanted the space Druthers will occupy.

“It’s not about drinking; it’s about food. It’s about family entertainment, and they complement what’s here,” Buicko said. “This was to complement what’s already in the casino, not compete with it.”
