A new way to bet the horses: Rivers Casino to partner with Off-Track Betting
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Patrons at Rivers Casino & Resort won’t have to worry about missing the Kentucky Derby or other horse racing action while playing the tables or slot machines.
Rivers is partnering with Capital Off-Track Betting to bring live racetrack betting to a New York state casino for the first time. The news comes just in time for the Kentucky Derby, which is run on Saturday from Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY.
It’s the only such partnership in the state, but it could be a pre-cursor for other such combinations. If, for example, the U.S. Supreme Court issues a ruling that expands sports betting to New York and other states, OTB operations could try to partner with the casinos, which are currently the only venues that would be immediately allowed to operate a sport book.
Rivers officials, in a news release, said the deal with OTB could “attract new guests to Rivers” and “bring in additional tax revenue to Schenectady and the surrounding area.” They declined to speculate on a potential deal involving sports betting.
