Sneak Peek of Schenectady's Mohawk Harbor Project
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — In about three months, Schenectady’s newest waterfront property will likely be busy with moving vans.
The Mohawk Harbor project is nearing completion on its aggressive timeline, meaning that its 209 high-end apartments will be available for rent by the end of summer. Along with the living quarters, around two dozen retail and restaurant spaces will be built out on the ground floor of the Riverhouse and Harbor Center buildings.
Spectrum News was granted an all-access tour of the construction site on Thursday, led by Galesi Group development company and Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara.
“Having access to this waterfront really adds to the site,” Santabarbara said, “and it’s a feature we’ve embraced as a community.”
The fourth-term assemblyman says he’s already seeing the economic value of Mohawk Harbor, with the nearby casino, two new hotels and a revitalized Erie Boulevard all adding service sector jobs for the city.
“I think it’s sustainable, because we’ve had this process of attracting new business to the area,” Santabarbara said of the project, which is very grand in scale. The assemblyman expects the harbor will draw new population growth to Schenectady and the surrounding towns and villages.
