Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady Celebrates Construction Milestone with Topping Off Ceremony

CHENECTADY, NY — Representatives of Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady were joined today by local officials, community leaders and construction partners to mark a milestone in the construction of the $330 million gaming facility with a topping off ceremony.

Leadership from casino operator Rush Street Gaming, representatives from the city and county and members of the dedicated construction team signed the final 60-foot steel beam before it was hoisted into place atop the structure. The final beam is near the casino’s entertainment lounge.

“Today, we mark yet another milestone for Rivers Casino Schenectady, and come another step closer to opening this first-class gaming and entertainment facility,” said Rush Street Gaming CEO Greg Carlin. “We’re grateful to everybody who has contributed to our project including our talented design and development team, our committed contractors and all of the highly skilled construction trades.”

“I’m proud to be able to celebrate today with our construction partners,” said Rivers Casino & Resort General Manager Mary Cheeks. “Topping off means we are one step closer to our grand opening, and I look forward to welcoming our future team members and customers to Rivers Casino & Resort.”

“I’m thrilled to see Rivers Casino & Resort rising so quickly,” said Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy. “Our city has already benefited from this facility thanks to Rush Street Gaming’s $50 million licensure fee, as well as the buzz the arrival of casino gaming in Schenectady has created across the Capital Region and beyond.”

“Rivers Casino & Resort is going to be a tremendous benefit to the County, City, and our local school districts,” said Anthony Jasenski, Chairman of the Schenectady County Legislature.  “Today’s topping off ceremony reinforces magnitude of this project, and the speed with which it will be coming to our community.”

Construction on Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady began immediately upon award of a gaming license by New York State in December 2015. Rush Street Gaming is committing to an aggressive construction schedule and an early 2017 opening.

Rivers Casino & Resort is a $330 million gaming facility, designed by Klai Juba Architects, Cleo Design and DMAC Architecture. Construction management has been by Norwood-LeChase, and development management by Development Management Associates.

Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady will have a 50,000-square-foot gaming floor with 1,150 slot machines, 63 gaming tables and 16 poker tables attached to a 163-room hotel and a 10,000-square-foot banquet facility capable of hosting up to 600 people for conventions and special events, one of the largest spaces in the region. Additionally, the property will have a steakhouse, a marketplace with light fare eateries, entertainment lounge and day spa. The casino will take full advantage of its riverfront position with outdoor patios and pre-function spaces.

Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady will be located adjacent to a new mixed-use Mohawk Harbor development currently under construction by the Galesi Group, which constitutes an additional $150 million investment in the 60-acre riverfront property. The mix of residential, retail and commercial space will include a 124-room Courtyard by Marriott and a 50-slip harbor on the Mohawk River and Erie Canal.
