SCHENECTADY — Site plan review for Mohawk Harbor, Galesi Group’s $480 million development to revitalize the old Alco site, will start at the end of the month.
The city Planning Commission will hold a special meeting March 31 to review the master plan for Mohawk Harbor, which includes housing, a casino and a 50-slip harbor. The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Room 110 of City Hall.
The plan includes a 151,000-square-foot casino with an adjacent six-story, 109,000-square-foot Sheraton hotel and a five-floor, 96,000-square-foot parking garage.
Galesi and Rush Street Gaming of Chicago were recommended for a casino license by the state Gaming Facility Location Board. The Gaming Commission has yet to award the license for Rivers Casino and Resort at Mohawk Harbor.
In addition to the casino, Galesi is also planning to build housing, office and retail space on the site, situated between Erie Boulevard and the Mohawk River. Housing and retail development would be built around the harbor.
Plans call for 191 apartment units in a six-story complex. The buildings would include retail space on the first floor and total 295,000 square feet. More apartments, totaling 28,000 square feet and three to five floors, would be built on the opposite side of the harbor.
Condominiums and townhouses would overlook the river. Plans include about 75 condos and townhouses. One building would total 35,000 square feet, and the other, right next to it, would be 100,000 square feet.
A Courtyard by Marriott hotel would be built behind the condos and townhouses and include 124 rooms and four floors, for a total of 80,000 square feet.
Retail and office space is situated next to STS Steel. The two buildings, one 36,000 square feet and the other 60,000 square feet, would be about three floors.
It appears the buildings are 40 feet or more from the river, according to the setback marked on the master plan.
