Mohawk Harbor making progress toward a full house

The Dunkin’ Donuts has opened and approximately 60 percent of the apartments are leased at Schenectady’s Mohawk Harbor, according to developer Dave Buicko.

Buicko, CEO of the Galesi Group, the Rotterdam-based company overseeing the $480 million development project, said a lot of progress has been made.

He plans to announce two tenants to take up office space at the Harbor Center office-retail complex in the coming weeks, adding he’s in negotiations with two other businesses for a possible lease.

There also could be another restaurant moving into the site, Buicko said, declining any other details.

The leasing of the River House apartments are ahead of schedule, according to Buicko.

“We’re ahead of our projections by about 40 percent,” he said.

While the Dunkin’ Donuts opened its doors to the public last week, the new space in the building for Capital Bank, which originally had plans to open its first branch in Schenectady last summer, has not yet been completed.

A spokesman for Capital Bank declined to comment on the 2,100-square-foot project, which will be a full-service brand with a drive-up teller.

The new restaurant from Druthers, which will be on the ground floor of the River House apartment complex, is still a work-in-progress. The restaurant, which Buicko referred to as “the most anticipated business” still to come in Mohawk Harbor, may be open sometime in March. However, Buicko said it depends on construction staying on schedule.

The vision for River House project is a mixture of service based retailers — such as grocery stores — and boutique shops. It is meant to serve not only the people who live in the apartments on the site, but also nearby businesses, according to Buicko.

Buicko said what they are building at Mohawk Harbor is the “the premiere office, retail and residential space in the Capital District.”

“I bring in people from outside the area, and they say this is how riverfront projects should be done,” Buicko said.
