Inside the old Alco site's quick transformation
SCHENECTADY — A majority of the buildings slated for the Mohawk Harbor site in Schenectady will be built or under construction by the end of the year.
Work is underway on a Courtyard by Marriott hotel and apartment building on the 60-acre riverfront property. The Rivers Casino and Resort at Mohawk Harbor is also starting to be erected on site.
By the beginning of next year, the casino will be up and running, the Marriott will be welcoming guests, the apartments will be leased, townhouses will be available and office and retail tenants will be moved in.
The Galesi Group of Rotterdam and casino operator Rush Street Gaming of Chicago are investing a total of $480 million into revitalizing the old Alco site off Erie Boulevard.
David Buicko, chief operating officer of Galesi, says 2017 will be “a big year” for Mohawk Harbor and for Schenectady.
