Ground breaking for office and retail space building at casino site

The gold shovels threw the ceremonial dirt onto an already paved road to break ground on One Hudson Center and Two Hudson Center.  Outside the tent, crews had already started building the 100,000 square foot complex. Galesi Group says they are building a community.

“The casino is a component. The casino is an entertainment center. This is not about a casino,” said Dave Buicko, Galesi Group CEO.

One Harbor Center and Two Harbor Center will house retail and office space.

The buildings will join two hotels, 200 apartments, 50 condos, townhouses, a hulking parking garage, and the 67 table game casino. In total, it is a 480 million dollar project.

Buicko says millennials will want to live here and businesses will want to be in these newest buildings.

“Schenectady is one of the larger private sector employers if you think about it. GE, Gollub, MVP, Ellis. So, from that standpoint, we’re running out of office space,” said Buicko.

Politicians took the chance to claim victory. Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, Buffalo local, says Schenectady reminds her of the renaissance of her own hometown.

“Young people who go to school at a place like Union College say ‘I don’t have to go back to my hometown or something else, I’m staying right here,'” said Hochul.
