Galesi closes on Schenectady building, plans new apartments
The Galesi Group of Schenectady, New York, has closed on the purchase of a former schoolhouse at 487 Nott St. in Schenectady.
The developer paid $200,000 to buy the historic former Nott Street School from the Schenectady County Industrial Development Agency. It plans to spend upward of $2 million to convert the building into apartments.
Built in 1877, the building served as a school until 1942. Most recently, the county’s Department of Social Services occupied the facility until 2009.
It was considered for demolition in 2008, to be replaced by professional offices in another Galesi plan. That plan was abandoned and the building near the Price Chopper headquarters was added to the National Register of Historic Places in December 2011.
