Construction at Rivers Casino continues to roll along

SCHENECTADY — The inside of the Rivers Casino and Resort at Mohawk Harbor is taking shape as operator Rush Street Gaming starts accepting applications for all future jobs there.

Rivers Casino General Manager Mary Cheeks and Rush Street Vice President of Operations Joe Scibetta gave the media a tour of construction Tuesday afternoon of the $330 million casino, which is on target to open early next year.

The casino is going up fast with the walls and floors already in place. The exterior of the building will be covered in metal panels, not the pink covering that’s now seen from Erie Boulevard.

The main entrance to the casino is on the southwest side of the building directly behind STS Steel, which is planning to stay on site.

When first walking into the casino, the poker room, with 15 poker tables, is on the right-hand side and next to it is the entertainment lounge. Both will have smoking patios because smoking is prohibited inside the casino under state law.

The middle of the open room is the casino’s gaming floor, which will have two table game pits in the center surrounded by slot machines, Scibetta said.

The gaming floor will have a total of 1,150 slot machines and 63 table games. Only people who are 21 and over will be permitted in the casino.
