Complex near casino on a roll

Steel walls sprouting from concrete floors are beginning to form the maze of apartment walls of The Riverhouse apartments.

The 206-unit complex overlooks a man-made harbor just steps away from the Rivers Casino & Resort, city’s future casino.

The apartment building will have one floor of retail space and below-ground parking. Crews installed white plumbing pipes and air ducts as others hammered in pieces of floor in the Southwest side of the building on Thursday.

The Galesi Group, a Schenectady company that is developing the residential property, said work will be finished next year. The group said it has already received inquiries and deposits from potential tenants.

The $150 million investment also includes land redevelopment and office space.

Chief Operating Officer David Buicko said developers are talking to retail tenants for the 45,000 square feet available in the apartment building. He declined to name potential tenants but said he expected them to fill between 2,000 and 8,000 square feet each.

These retailers won’t compete with downtown Schenectady, Buicko said, adding he will be careful to complement downtown offerings.
